From Personal Health Journey to Eco-conscious Entrepreneur: Creating an Organic and Natural Deodorant

Penelope Wrenn

Several years ago, my aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer, and while I don't know if there's a direct connection between store-bought deodorants and cancer, it got me thinking about the products I was putting on my body. At the time, I also had a run-away gland in my armpit that appeared when I was breastfeeding and never went away. This concern was always in the back of my mind, and I began to take steps towards improving my lymphatic health, including a quest for the perfect natural deodorant that would keep me fresh and safe.

I tried every natural deodorant under the sun, from crystal to salt to coconut oil with tea tree oil. While some were somewhat effective, reapplication was a constant struggle, especially during the summer months when I spent a lot of time in the garden and swimming. Plus, even in the winter, no one wants to be constantly reapplying deodorant! I also found that my body didn't react well to certain fabrics, particularly polyester, which made me smell even worse.

I began to notice that no matter how often I washed with soap, there was always something lingering. If you've experienced this, I recommend shaving and using witch hazel, which tends to remedy the issue. Store-bought "natural" deodorants just weren't cutting it for me, and I didn't want to trust big name brands that market towards people like me who are looking for safer alternatives.

But I didn't give up on my quest. Instead, I decided to create my own deodorant, which turned out to be a game-changer. I'm really proud of this moment and want to share my journey with others who may be experiencing similar issues. There are two scents to choose from and a limited supply. The Dynamic Duo! I playfully named them Hugga Pits and Lova Pits so you don't have to be self conscious anymore! I encourage you to to hug and love the people you care about.

I started by planting rosemary seeds last year, harvesting, and drying them. Then, I infused the rosemary at the right temperature and let it sit until everything was ready. Next, I melted organic ingredients in a particular order and temperature, using a formula that I spent months experimenting with.

During this time, I also implemented healthy habits into my bathing routine, such as dry brushing and GuaSha techniques. I also discovered the benefits of Castor oil for lymphatic health and started massaging the lymph node under my arm and sleeping with Castor oil packs. These practices helped reduce the size of the gland considerably, which was a huge relief.

Through extensive research, I discovered organic, natural ingredients with antimicrobial and deodorizing properties and experimented with different ratios and combinations until I found the perfect formula that worked for me. There was a lot of trial and error, but the result is a deodorant that's free of harmful chemicals, gentle on my skin, and keeps me fresh and odor-free all day long.

I've made a limited supply of my deodorant for others to try, and I'm confident that it will work for others who share my concerns about using natural, organic, and eco-conscious products. If you can relate to my journey, I encourage you to try it for yourself and share your thoughts with me on my Facebook page
